IMHO The Prius is a good car, butt ! This type of car really is the worst of both worlds. . . . Like any compromise, something is lost on both ends. . As I have been in the battery related auto/truck equipment business for years and all the relays/switches/inverters/conrol devises to make these things work. . . Not to mention the batteries plus add a gas motor to the mix, doesn't make for anything easy to work on and VERY EXPENSIVE to fix to boot. . . . Toyota's warranty was mentioned, how many years will it take to put on 120,000 miles , 5 or 7 ? Then who pays to fix it. .. It's like all the other too complicated digitized cars being made. . . . Once most hit 100,000 miles {midlife} they start to break and then the real $$$ fun starts. . . . Thousand dollar brake jobs, etc. . . It takes a lot of gas savings to justify this added expense.I just bought a 2009 Toyota Yaris {the Up model} That gets 35+ MPG around town as a grocery getter for $14,000.00. . . Wind up windows and zero bells and whistles. . . It's a fun car butt it's sure a buzzy little car to drive. . . My 84 El-C is much nicer to drive. . . And why it's not going to be on the road this Winter as she'll be getting a "make over" . . . Only time will tell whether I'm right in my opinion. . . . Barry-Maryland _________________ 84 El Camino

I was recently in Germany and sneaked (or is it snucked) into the Volkswagen test facility where I secretly snapped this photo of their new hybrid beetle. This looks promising as a new breed of hybrids! http://dvice.com/pics/windupkey.gif Apparently after researching and investigating this deeper, I'm finding that this technology has been around for quite some time (1958 Metropolitan) ...but was bought off by the oil companies (I'm sure we've all heard the rumors). Dam them oil moguls! http://farm1.static.flickr.com/63/155983020_91cd2cfe10.jpg?v=0 <--that's a pic of the guy who invented the technology (he has since disappeared adding to the conspiracy theory) hmmmmm _________________ "The day we lose our will to fight is the day we lose our freedom" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TG4fe9GlWS8

There are obviously two manufacturers represented in the photos as one uses the round power source and the other uses the square one. _________________ 84 Elky with 455 Buick, Tremec TKO600 5 speed, 8.5 3:42 posi -

As Hybrids go, I hate em but I know they're necessary for now.
So if you really want to feel good about yourself wait for the Volt and pass on the Prius. At least you'll be supporting a company who's HQ is still in the U.S. instead of one who just puts a factory in the U.S. They don't allow unions and only put plants on U.S. soil to avoid potential import tariffs.
Toyota's get more credit than they deserve and I've owned 3 of them, my buddy's owned two plus 3 Nissan's. His last Toyota truck had the recall to fix the Front Wheels falling off the spindles at highway speeds.

Well what ever your thoughts are of hybrids (I personally don't care for the current technology) they are here and it's becoming a booming biz! Rumor has it that GM has even hired this guy to head up their new Hybrid Division to drum up support of the current GM Execs. http://babyboomeradvisorclub.files.wordpress.com/2007/01/bnybigbunny_img.jpg _________________ "The day we lose our will to fight is the day we lose our freedom" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TG4fe9GlWS8

if thats the case Spencer99then im all for it.
Im just baseing my respones one the prius. correct me if im wrong but they get 35 mpg if thats the case then there building a crock of a hybrid. i dont know if you guys heard of a mustang (it was the 5.0 body style) that this guy has been building for ten years thats 500+ hp something like 0 to 60 in under 4 seconds and gets 110 miles to a gallon on vegetable oil, go figer. the hybrids there comeing out with are shams. look him up i saw this on the news earlyer this year, i dont know if he has a web site i wouldent doubt it though. i also wouldent doubt if a major manif bought him out and destroyed it along with buying all the pattents
I'd like to see a link to this 110 mpg Mustang.
A video of sasquatch would be nice too.
What I think is that anyone that complains that hybrids are stupid shouldn't be complaining about $5 or $10 gas in a few years.

Hybrids are a stopgap and nothing more. They have plenty of issues on their own like the batteries, performance, etc. It's all been said ad nauseum.
What I'd like to see is someone come up with synthetic gasoline. Something I don't have to fight my barbeque for the fuel and don't have to
reengineer my entire fuel system to use.
It's got to be possible. Ethanol is close but then there's the issue of growing enough crops unless you just use switchgrass which has just as much potential energy.
I saw the Mother's polish 70 Chevelle project car that runs on propane. 1000HP but the fuel system is positively freakish. It works though...
Here's a link to what I'm talking about. I'd still be fighting my barbeque for fuel but in this case it'd be worth it.

Propane is more expensive then gas and doesn't burn as hot. . . I.E. you have to use more to go the same distance. . . . All electric or hydrogen are the best short term fixes. . . . Barry-Maryland _________________ 84 El Camino

do you guys know what they run on in Brazil? Sugar Cane Ethanol. I watched a show on it and they have miles and miles of that stuff growing everywhere. they compared it to the E85 ethanol in the states, and it is cheaper to produce, easier to grow, and easier to refine. I think they said it also has the same performance as 91 octane. they even drive chevys down there on that stuff! seriously though, that would be a great idea if it was grown in the southern states... _________________ Spencer99
