A 3 row for a 78,79 350 should work fine. A friend has one in his 78 Malibu with a big block & has no problems. _________________ 78 Camino SS, 355,built 700r4,3.23

Tommy, i also think a 3 core rad should work. but the 400 small block does run a little hotter because of the siamesed cylinder walls. _________________ 83 choo choo ss pro touring black with a 350 & 17inch torque thrust ii wheels. 1975 kawasaki z1 900, 1976 kawi kz 900 ltd, 1952 Anglia 400 small block old skool pro street, 05 kawi z 1000 06 Gmc Canyon 4x4 off road

What about a Modine 951? It is the stock replacement aluminum radiator for 1991 IROC Camaros with 350s and auto trans. It drops right in place and the only thing you have to do is slightly tweak the lower tranny line. It's the same width and hose locations. It's got plastic tanks and an aluminum core. You'll get better cooling, and it's 5 lbs lighter than the stock radiator.
the modine sounds like a good deal..but will it cool as well as the 4 row radiator...i cant really afford to do any guess work on this one....what are the dimmensions of an 81 el camino radiator...

My Camino is a bit older, but the process should be the same. I had a 3 row radiator in mine, which ran too hot once I went to BB. I ended up taking the rad out and down to the local radiator shop. They did some checking and were able to recore it using a 5 row core and my top and bottom tanks. Cost me about $300. And if I have any problems I can take care of it locally, rather than shipping it halfway across the country. Might be worth looking into.
