How do you know if you =have a true SS or not. Someone told us it was by the VIN others have said no.
We have a 78 El Camino VIN 1W80U8K541369. We have decoded the VIN but it doesn't really tell us if its an SS.
thanks

Look for a "Z15" on the RPO cowl tag. Jon _________________ Z15 EL

Thank you for the info. -- will look at the cowl tag again -- could the SS package have been added after it left the factory?

Anything is possible, but I don't think it would have been added at the dealer.
Here is what you should look for on the cowl tag.
The Z15 in in the middle right part of the tag. _________________ Ernie

The 1973 SS-350 and the SS-454 used the Z15 RPO also. Does your VIN start with 1D80Y or 1D80K ? What engine do you have?
