After revising my build plans for my 1985 SS, I decided to use something along the lines of GMPP's ZZ383 crate engine (425hp, 450lb/ft) instead of the ZZ454 that I had originally planned on. The small block allows a better fit, not to mention I can keep all my accessories.
My question is, will the EFI from a Corvette LT1 engine fit the ZZ383, and will it be able to support 425hp? If not, are there any aftermarket EFI systems that can?

Not sure about the Vette injection, it might wind up being a real pain in da butt to get it to work. Holley, Accel and Ebelbrock all make different TBI and Multiport injection systems that are tunable with a laptop. They are a bit expensive. Have you thought about buying a 350 Ram Jet crate motor? The ZZ383 uses the fastburn heads which can be used with Vortec or carbureted style intakes, so the Vette injection bolt pattern should match up. I would think that you may need to go with a larger throttle body at the very least to support 425hp. By the time you buy ($$$$$) all the necessary pieces you'll need to make the Vette injection system work, you might just be better off going with an aftermarket system...I am. _________________ "The day we lose our will to fight is the day we lose our freedom" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TG4fe9GlWS8

350/350 Ramjet crate motor $4661 from GM Parts Direct, plus shipping. Around another $1000 for harness, air cleaner, throttle cable, tranny detent cable, chip, 02 sensor, oil pressure switch, oil pressure "tree", tank mounted fuel pump and maybe a couple of other small goodies.
I love the ramjet F. I., looks a lot like the early Corvette F.I. units.
If someone will buy my GM crate 350/330hp, it's got about 3500 miles on it, I'll go ahead and buy a Ramjet 350 crate motor. _________________ Dan Smith

lt1 injection won't work because of the reverse flowing heads.
im guessing that the zz383 has vortec style heads, so the only options i can think of are either making your own out of a tpi manifold (which means you have to get an aftermarket intake base), and upgrading the parts to suit your airflow needs, or an edelbrock injection unit, but if i remember right, the edelbrock only supports around 375hp _________________ 1985 El Camino Conquista 13.7 @ 99mph with 87octane

Phillip,
The ZZ383 is a killer small block,i wish at the time when i was building my 383,that that option would have been around, its a nice start to a great engine,i personally would go with a custom E.F.I set-up from these guys F.A.S.T There products are more of what your looking for fuel injection needs.
I had the edelbrock performer rpm fuel injection on my elky for the first 2 years, and it was a pain, problems with there ecu,and there software bugs, after a long battle i went to fast fuel injection, they set me up with a "simple" efi system that works, and there software was easy to use,
and iam getting over 450+ (on flywheel) on the dyno runs that were done.
Of course, there are burps here and there,i don't think there is any system thats totally flawless (except factory maybe?) there are other good companies that make exceptional efi systems also, iam happy with the fast sytem, more expandable, more tuning options, ect,if you want you can email me with some more questions (if you would like) i would be happy to help any way i can to get that 383 thumpin!
