I own a 1983 elkie. This is my 2nd mechanic since owning it. My first one closed. Three times I left this one after a repair, I immediately left with a new problem. I have always owned older, high mileage vehicles & have never had problems one right after another. I have left there with a new existing problem 3 times that I recorded. I have a folder with all the repairs. This mechanic is very pleasant is very nice, but something is wtong here. This vehicle was my fathers and I inherited it. I remember it to be very reliable. This is my first Chevy. I can't believe so many thingsshould be happening like this. My first mechanic drove it and told me how good it was. I really enjoy it and I'm slowly restoring it, but I don't get much of a break to save and do body work too. I feel that I am being problemed with it. I am a 52yr. old cape verdean woman and know a lot about maintaining a car. I buy repair manuals and everything. Is it possible to have this many problems or are my senses right? I didn't have so much problems with the first mechanic. He seems to have replaced several engines lately. I felt that something is going on. Can someone help me?
I would look for a new mechanic although the problems could simply be coincidental. When shopping for a new mechanic, look for an older person. An older mechanic is more likely to have experience on your 83 truck. Younger mechanics are not likely to be as familiar with your vehicle as the older ones. Be sure to ask the mechanic if he has any experience with your vehicle.
There are a few mechanics in my area who will admit they cannot work on the electronic carburetors and controls on these vehicles and readily refer them to a mechanic who they know to be competent. These are the honest ones, so your chore is to find one who is honest and experienced.
Good luck _________________ 86 caballero, 350 cid, TH350C
