Some people love eBay, some hate it. I've been very successful in keeping the prices of what I buy to a minimum because I wait until the last possible moment to place my bid. (Called "sniping")

I'm that guy you've lost out to in the past. You've seen it happen: Your bid is still the highest as the auction is about to close. You wait excitedly by your computer expecting to be notified that you've won, but...somehow you've lost. In the last seconds of the auction a new bid has appeared, too late for you to respond. You've been sniped.

I use Auction Sniper. It is an eBay sniper web site that automates the process of placing your bid in the closing seconds of any eBay auction, keeping you out of a bidding war and dramatically increasing your chance of winning. It's pretty simple: you tell it what you want to win, and it snipes eBay for you. Best of all, Auction Sniper is free to try. After the trial is up there is a fee per successful snipe, but it is well worth it, to keep the final price down.

If you would like to try it, send me an email with the email address you use for eBay, and I will send you an invitation for 3 free snipes. (I get 3 free ones in return).

Good luck.

Thanks for the info. Do you tell them what the max that you will pay and they only "snipe" to that amount? And what if there is an error and the bid comes in over what you wanted?

Sniping does not exsist, it is a figment of your imagination, you have only been lucky, I do not recommend that you bid on anything on Ebay...unless I don't want it, but you won't know I want it until the end will you? Cool

I've sniped a few things off of ebay. Keeps the morons from driving a price up on you. The problem is that you have people that will sit there and nickel and dime an auction up to try and win. Don't know if they just get caught up in the biding and don't want to loose or what. I watched a piece that goes for about $35 go for about $145 because 2 morons didn't know when to quit.

Usually,if it's something I REALLY need I put in my max amount I'm willing to pay for it and let eBay "proxy" for me until my price either wins the auction or I get beat out. Sniping has no effect on my bidding process and whoever snipes my bid is paying more than I'm willing to give anyway. Seems anyway most of the new elky/chevelle parts up for auction on eBay you can get through year one, N.P.D., etc. at the same price as what some of the sellers open with. Most of the original "parts car" parts are usually shot, but you CAN get lucky sometimes. Cool

It places one (1) bid for the amount you specify, at the time you specify. The key is that you don't get into a bidding war, which drives the price up. I usually set mine to bid 5 seconds before the auction close.

The problem with eBay's proxy bidding is that if you bid a high amount early, everyone interested in the item will place a bid against you. Even if you are still the high bidder, the ending price is higher. Basically, bidding early benefits the seller, cause it drives the price up. Bidding later benefits the buyer.

I have Sniped LOTS of items. If you don't beleive in it, that's fine. I works for me.

Ebay offers the same service, at no charge. When you bid, you also give you maximum bid. Each time someone else bids, ebay ups you bid by a small amount. You can't be beat out until the price passes your maximum. It happens instantly.

It works great, many times for me.

Moneypit 68 hit the nail on the head. You have to know what you can buy the part for from retail vendors and the items price before bidding. All of us Elky owners should have catalogs from all the major vendors. Most of the time, you can get your item brand new or reproduction for less. Plus, they have a return policy.

There is always a place for Ebay items.. but you should still be a smart consumer.

Oh, by the way, depending on the item, I love beating out snipers. I don't mind going up against them. It is part of the "game". Cool Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose. I won't get into a pi$$ing contest though. I have my set amount and "try" to stick to it.

You just can't take this stuff so so seriously. Know what I mean???

Cool I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.

Like I said before, you either believe in sniping or not. The point of my original post was to share the web site with my fellow snipers.

Good luck to everyone on their auctions!

Your way to funny! Very Happy I don't blame you one bit, and in some ways agree with the sniping practice. Especially on a 4th gen Elky like you and I own. LOL.

I'd wager we have gone up against each other on an item or two. It's all good though. Best of luck to you also.

I buy and sell on ebay and it can be frustrating to get sniped but then if it's 2 bucks more than you were willing to pay there's nothing for you to be upset about. It used to really upset me but I just console myself in the fact that some idiot was willing to pay 100 bucks for something I know is only worth 85 at best.

I feel a bit bad for the seller when that happens though because some bidders like to jack up the auction price just to kiss off other bidders then don't pay up. They don't care about Ebay rules either cuz they just come back with a new user ID. That's why you are seeing more auctions with conditions on them like, "no negative feedback" or "10 feedbacks minimum" Ebay also makes it a pain in the rear to file complaints about non-payer's too because it lets the deadbeats still have access to feedback. That means they can welch on the deal and not pay you, leave negative feedback and you can still end up paying all the fees including the fees that get calculated off the sale price. Not fair but them's the rulez. Shocked

When I sell on Ebay I watch for how many people have put my item on their "watch list" If I have zero or 1 bid on an item yet 10 people are watching it I can almost guarantee that I've got sniper bids waiting to come in at the last 30 seconds of the auction. I got to watch one last time I sold an item and it was actually quite exciting seeing everybodys sniper clients bidding in the last few seconds. But then again I worry about getting paid when someone goes a bit high.

It's definitely a different kind of experience. Cool

Hello, my name is Michael.....and I am a sniper... Sad

Laugh Laugh

Though for the record....let me say that I never do the things Elcamino74guy was talking about like jacking up prices and such...

but I do wait often until the last moments to win an auction....I mean that can be work too, because that means I have to sit and watch and wait as well, and if others are out there doing the same. Well the closest I ever lost was one second, I got sniped by $.50...but hey it was my fault cause I was trying to be cheap, so no harm no foul.

And nothing whatsoever is wrong with that. I have sold stuff below market value because I chose not to put a reserve on it, knowing it could sell for less than I want My loss......and I have bought plenty of stuff the same way...usually cause I do my homework (the search engine is your friend), and if someone has the item mislabeled or in the wrong category, it can become a bargain. My gain.

After all, my ebay ID is 'goldnrule', and I have helped many people with their auctions, and won some and lost some. But I have found ebay to be an exciting an interesting experience, and as my ID suggests.....generally you will get treated like you treat others.
