When I changed my 2.29:1 out for a 3.42:1, one of the local Chevrolet Dealers simply looked up on his parts computer database and he had a listing for gear ratio vs tire size and speedo gear colour. If I remember correctly, my speedo gear set ended up being an Orange gear set.

In order to change the speedo gears in a THM 350, the drive shaft and tail shaft are removed, exposing the speedo gears. Then, a little metal retainer is pulled up and out of a small hole in the tranny output shaft allowing the plastic speedo gear to be forced off the output shaft.

Mine took a bit of persuasion to get off the output shaft. Installation is much easier.

You will need to replace both the output shaft gear and the worm gear and they should be bought as a set. Your local Chevrolet dealer should have access to speedo gear set information. Also remember to replace the seals in the speedo cable output asembly and tailshaft while you have them appart for good cheap insurance against leaks.
