This is from another thread, but the subject is close. You can get a copy of the invoice for your 1977 and NEWER El Camino from GM. It is free. I have contacted Peggy at GM and she gave me permission to publish her name and what info she will need from you.
Great tip, but sad to say, records have been "lost" for anything prior to 1977.

I am sorry to say that our Chevy and Chevy Truck records only go back to
1977! We do not know exactly what happened to the records prior to that
year--there is a lore that says something about "lost in a fire" but that
seems too cliche for me! Others say they were just pitched!
I am sorry I am unable to help you!

I contacted Peggy and she was very nice, but was not able to help me with any info on my '73. I told her about our club / site and asked her if it was all right to freely publish her name and email. Here is her response:

Jay,
Sure!
We have:
Chevy from 1977
Pontiac from 1987
Buick from 1982
Cadillac from 1980
GMC from about 1976
Olds from 1977
We have incomplete files for Canadian, Mexican, exported and Fleet vehicle
invoices.
The invoices are free for now. The process takes 6-8 weeks. Need name,
address, VIN, make and year.
Pontiac owners also have another resource: The Pontiac Historical Services
(phs-online.com) can provide invoices further back, but charges for them.
Good afternoon Peggy,
I have read that you are the person I should contact to request a copy of
the original invoice for my car. Can I trouble you to please send me the
invoice for my 1973 El Camino. My VIN is: 1D80xxxxxxxxx

I made a request quite a while ago. After several weeks I received an email stating that I didn't include enough numbers in the VIN. Well we all know by now that VIN's from older cars do not have as many digits as today's vehicles. I sent back a reply suggesting they place zeros before the number (this is how my insurance agent did it). Haven't heard back for weeks.

What is this invoice? A list of MPG and other features? _________________ Sparkling Gold Metalic

The invoice is what the dealer got showing everything about the vehicel from VIN, to options, and cost vs. retail.
The best thing to have, its akin to having a carbon copy of the window sticker with dealer cost. _________________ Mike
