Starting in july they are going to have emission tests for all cars, I think. If you do not pass you do not get your plates. I am going to try and register in another county. Cool

Used to be out in AZ all you had to do to get tags was to open a PO Box in the county you want the car registered in. They kind of got wise to that but it might still be possible in other states.

Happy

Yep, I go to Lowe's often. My truck is burgundy and silver. I have a buddy who lives at the very entrance to Hurricane Creek. He's in the first house on the right after leaving E. Brainerd Road and is next to the Winn Dixie store complex. He was involved in the effort to block construction of the little strip shopping mall located there. I live off Standifer Gap Road about a mile past the volunteer fire station and county park.

I visited the TN emissions web site to read up on what's involved in the emissions test. Not only do they test for emissions, but they also will be checking for any fluid leaks. If they detect a leak of ANY fluid, they will refuse to inspect your vehicle. If you have an e-carb that is properly adjusted and in good mechanical condition, a good cat, new O2 sensor, fresh tuneup and no leaks, you should be able to pass the inspection. I am told it helps to run racing fuel, the stuff with ultra high octane. I am told it is sold by Benton Oil Co at Bonny Oakes and Jersey Pike. Also, there is a gasoline additive I have seen on the web that claims to maximize the chances of passing the emissions test. The ad states that if you add the stuff to your gas tank and drive the vehicle for 40 miles before taking it to the test facility, it will easily pass inspection unless there's glaring problems with the engine.

A cat is imperative. The vihicle will not pass the visual inspection without one in place. Then too, it is doubtful the vehicle would pass the tailpipe sniffer test without one. I am planning to install a new one before inspecting my truck. I'll spend the extra money for a CARB (California Air Requirements Board) certified cat.

I THINK the visual inspection includes a check of the emissions systems vacuum hoses, A.I.R. tubes, air pump, etc, but I am not certain. I understand there will be four testing stations in the city. One near Hamilton Place Mall and one off Bonny Oakes in one of those industrial parks. The othes are downtown or in the western parts of the area.

BTW, inspections are scheduled to start April 1. Fee will be $10.00 per vehicle and the revenue will be shared with the city & county. Air quality in the area has been improving about 7 points per year for the last six years and we are projected to be a non-violator by 2007 if no action is taken. Want to guess what is behind the inspections? You would not dare guess $$$ would you. Let's see. A 60 -40 split in the take would net the tax collector about 1.2 million dollars each year. I can see Jesse Register beginning to smile already.
