The screws on my '69 are screwed up! I have new lenses, however I can't get the screws out. I tried spraying them, I tried that Sears screw extractor but all it did was round out the + in the heads. Can they be drilled out or do I need to buy new tail light housings? Any help out there?
What I've done in the past is to try and drill the old screws out, using a drill size about the size of the head of the screw. Drill just far enough to remove the head of the screw, then remove (pry off) the old lens and then you can get at the rest of the screw and use more spray, let it soak, and then you should be able to use a pair of pliers/vicegrips to remove the rest of the screw. Hint: when you reassemble the new lens, I always put a dab of anti-seize on the screws. Hope this helps. Bob _________________ 81 conquista 350-700r4, changed frame, yr4 of 3 yr project

I have had good luck using an easy out, drill hole down center of screw and backtwist in easy out, works most of the time if you have applied plenty of penetrant oil. _________________ Thanks Rod

hey, what i have sometimes done with a stuck screw is use a drimel tool with a thin cutting disk, i cut a slot all the way across the srew so i can just use a flat head driver to get it out. it might not work in your situation with the light covers being right there, but it works on many other situations. hope ya figure it out
