My '81 was originally a non air truck. Shortly after my grandparents bought the truck new, they added the a/c. I'm not quite sure who put the air in or what kit it is, all I know is that the people who did it are local. It looks very stock, the outer vents look like NOS parts and the controls are made to look stock but are not exactly like the NOS a/c controls. I have seen the exact same set up on another camino on eBay a few months back but not on any other truck. Well anyway, the system is acting up. The top lever on the control that selects heat, a/c, def, etc. is very sticky and won't exactly select heat and a/c, it wants to pull to the right by itself. Also, I can't really get the heater or defroster to work. I can set is to defrost or as close as I can get it to heat and heat will come out, but I only get hot air when the fan switch is completely off. When I turn the fan on, I get air conditioning. Is it set up to do this, I don't think it should be but is it? What do I do to fix it? Does anyone else have a similar set-up? I would really like to figure this out because it's starting to snow and the temp is dropping down to the low 30s and 20s this week here in Canton and I drive the car daily. Thanks for any help and/or info. _________________ Matt

Sounds like you need to pull the control head and find out why it is sticking.
Could be a kink in the cable or an adjustment issue. The brand could be one of several that made units for G bodies way back when. If you have photos of the unit I could help you identify the maker and possibly help you out. _________________ El Camino Central Founder/AdministratorAuto A/C & Electrical Shop Owner, ASE Master
