As far as an 12V electric impact wrench, I suppose they're might be OK for a roadside emergency, but I don't really recommend them for heavy usage...unless maybe you have electricfried nuts. As far as a compressor goes, There's many differ brands, cheap and expensive, small and large. It all depends on your needs, light usage and you should be able to get away with a cast aluminum pump 120V 20-26 gal. I use my compressor quite a bit so I have a 220V 60 gal tank with twin cast iron pump...hopefully it will last longer than the last cast aluminum pump 26 gal tank I had which lasted about 2 years. Ingersoll Rand is probably the top of the line both in quality and price. My son also has a twin tank 6hp gas powered, that if I need to use at the boneyard I have access to, I reallly like it because of it's mobility. _________________ "The day we lose our will to fight is the day we lose our freedom" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TG4fe9GlWS8

i have a dewalt electric impact 1/2" 120v and i love it! it it great for tires and it is also great for lag bolts on decks. i have had no trouble with it. i have used it on my elky, my honda and my buddy's f150 w/17" rims and have had no trouble using it at all. i would reccommend it to anyone who didn't have an air compressor setup.

Get yourself a pnuematic wrench. If you don't already have a compressor, go ahead and get one (even if it is small). Once you have it, you'll be amazed at how much you will use it for other things.
I bought one this past summer. I keep it in the garage, and have a hose running outside. The kids can use it to blow up their toys, balls and bike tires. I picked up a cool tire inflator/gage attachment:
