I hear that you can reroute the lines for the air pump and effectivly create a makeshift super charger(or turbo charger, whatever you view it as). If I were to do this, whould it work? _________________ 84 El Camino SS

I've seen this done and it makes a lot of power, it can easily double the horsepower. A friend of mine did it on his 1980 Chevette and he went out and smoked new Corvettes. Please post pics when you complete the hook-up. _________________ 1979 El Camino\r\n1955 Chevrolet Del Ray\r\n1962 Corvette\r\n1966 Corvette Coupe
The thing about it is I have been told it would burn up the engine. It has something to do with the computer trying to balance the air fuel mixture or something like that. I'm not aware that they had computers on cars in 1980. I think they started putting them in in 1981. My Elky is a 1984 so if the comp thing is true i'm screwed. Anyone who has done this on a computer controled Elky please let me know how it went. _________________ 84 El Camino SS

Just stop, he believes you Well, it is entertaining, but Theo, don't destroy your car. _________________ -JOHN

While the smog pump turbo charger works really well a better trick is to wire an old electric desk fan into the carburetor intake. A friend of mine broke the Land Speed Record for Ford Pintos with this setup. The only drawback is the really long extension cord. _________________ 1979 El Camino\r\n1955 Chevrolet Del Ray\r\n1962 Corvette\r\n1966 Corvette Coupe

Come on, guys! You don't need that extension cord. A simple power inverter will work just fine. I think at 40 watt one should be okay unless you have three deuces. You'll need at least 70 watts for that setup. _________________ Regards,
On a serious note, it won't work. I've got some friends that've tried all the tricks in the books to make more power. Some of them include dry ice in the intake("cold air intake"), hooking a leaf blower up to the intake, etc etc. Nothing works except a real supercharger/turbo.

Hey, there are all kind of horsepower "tricks" out there. There is a local "expert mechanic" on the radio here that swears by a combination of WD40 and mothballs in the gasoline. And I know it works...'cause I've used it...and never had a squeek or a moth in my gas tank. _________________ 1979 El Camino\r\n1955 Chevrolet Del Ray\r\n1962 Corvette\r\n1966 Corvette Coupe

Let's not forget the acetone craze. I heard about that one on the radio during the Katrina gas crunch here in SC. A couple of ounces per tank and your mileage will sky rocket due to the acetone breaking down the surface tension of the gasoline. _________________ Regards,
