I prefer a pneumatic impact wrench. The 1/2" electric impact wrenches have a lot less torque and lower RPM's than the pneumatics and they cost more too. _________________ Ernie

Electric impact wrenches do have a place in the garage. If you just need a couple of bolts removed it is easier than cranking up an air compressor. They don't have the big time torque, but how often do you need full strength? I use my 120 Volt impact all the time to remove the lug nuts, simple jobs. And I don't have to listen to an air compressor.
One big advantage pneumatic wrenches have is light weight. _________________ 1986 El Camino

Some compressors are fairly quiet. I still prefer a radio or CD player! _________________ 1986 El Camino

I was thinking about a battery powered impact wrench because it would be
good when going to the junkyard. I only need a few bolts to replace( like
5 bolts). I dont have a compressor, what would brand of compressor, would you recommend, any thing I should look for? _________________ fix things now, not later when the problem get worse, good luck!

I have an electric impact wrench... actually it is a battery powered impact wrench from Craftsman. It is quite impressive, I can take all four tires off and put them back on and still have power left over from one battery! Perfect to carry in your car if you are going on a trip, just in case you have a blow out! I do prefer the pneumatic though, but I just don't have the space for a compressor right at this moment in time. _________________ V/R

I actually bought just a cheap Elctric impact wrench (at pepboys) for like $30.00 to work on teh El Camino and a 65 Mustang and it has been great removing bolts on the bumper on the mustang. may not be as good as the air ones or evena more expensive one but it works great for me.

As a note, I was at a Kart race in Laurens, SC on the last day of 2005 and lots of the pit crews use the cordless electric impact/torque wrenches. The guy I was with was lamenting his lack. _________________ Regards,
