Well i finally got the time over the winter to build an engine for my el camino. Im aiming for the 400 hp range. How does this build sound to you guys

Im gonna start with a junkyard 4 bolt main 350 engine, dissassemble it, get the block machined and checked for cracks, get the crank ground if necessary and all other machine work done, and keep the origenal rods if there good. Ill have the machine shop press in all new bearings. from there i plan on using Forged pistons, 64cc vortec heads, and the comp xtreme energy 274 cam (.487, .490)

Now my concerns are, What will the compression be? and would it be to high for the vortec heads? Basically im looking for a reliable street engine, that wont be driven every day, and will have around 400hp

Iron heads, I wouldn't go any better than 9.5:1.

Are you planning on going with a new model block with OEM roller lifters? The issue would be with the Fuel Pump you'd have to go with an electric one. Better block and the lifters are way cheaper if you have to replace any.
