I need to remove the distributor on an 81 Elky 305 V8 with HEI distributor, no vacuum advance (ESC). What's the trick to loosening the distributor hold-down clamp? Special wrench needed?
I have to replace a faulty pickup coil that's affecting the timing dramatically.
Yeah, your local parts store (Autozone, NAPA, whatever) should carry the wrench you need. It's kind of L shaped and fits on a ratchet. I'm not sure what they might call it on the package... I've always called it a "distributor wrench", but that's probably not the official name.
Ok I got the distributor out using the "offset distributor wrench" from my local auto parts store. Now how do I get the roll pin out which holds the gear on the end. I've tried everything I know. I've used a nail set (too small), a screwdriver (too large). Is there a trick here or a tool I need?
