I need a headliner backer board for my 79 Elky, it was missing when I bought the car and I can't finish the interior.
I know that you can buy them new for $125 plus shipping, but i'm retired and on a fixed income so I have to limit my funds.
I will buy one in any repairable condition and even trade for another elky part I have laying around.
I thought about making one, but I haven't figured out a way to form the curves as they come down on the sides. Has anyone tried to make their own, and if so what did you use for a template? I thought about using some thin foam inusulation panel (home insulation) and pressing it against the interior roof, but i'm not sure that it would work.
If I could just turn the elky upside down, I know that I could do it, but then I would only crush the roof and that wouldn't be too smart.(Only Kidding).

The OEM board is made of styrofoam, most out of a donor Elky will be cracked where the visors bolt up. I recovered mine and used duct tape to help reinforce where the cracks were then recovered it with the correct color foam...came out nice. Total cost was around $30. The OEM board is very flimsy and even if you did find someone who had one, it would more than likely be damaged in shipping unless it was extremely well packaged. I would suggest finding one locally out of a boneyard, and recover it yourself, it's not hard to do and took me about 3hrs (first time I did one). I will eventually go with the ABS plastic, I'm planning on some type of overhead console with digital compass (wife says I have no sense of direction) and external temp display. _________________ "The day we lose our will to fight is the day we lose our freedom" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TG4fe9GlWS8
