Hi i have a brand new edelbrock 600 cfm carb. the problem im having is that it floods when i shut my engine off for 5 minutes and try restarting it drains into my dome i have to hold the pedal half way to the floor to get her going. i know its flooded because i can smell the gas. even my fuel filter goes empty and when idling it floods or loads up . and when i pull away in traffic the carb surges or floods all the time when driving slow .this is the second edelbrock carb and it has the same problems as the first .sorry for the long post. please help its driving me crazy. Sounds like it might be getting too hot. Are you using a carb heat isolator? My edelbrock would do the same things you describe, I installed an edelbrock carb isolator gasket and all problems were solved. I have been running that carb. for a few years now with no problems. What kind of fuel pump are you running. Those carbs are sensitive to fuel pressure so if you are running a aftermarket pump you might have to much pressure. _________________ 78 Camino SS, 355,built 700r4,3.23

Thanks guys im just running a stock gm fuel pump. i put heat spacer on today like chevy pwr said and it runs a little better but it still floods when shut off.for 10 minutes. i think its just another bad carb.any way ive got another replacement on it's way it should be here tomorrow.lets hope it fixes the flooding. I have two. One on my 76 383 and one on the 80 SS which I haven't used yet. Both are 750 CFM. I can't say I am real impressed with them. I believe Holley would have been a better choice for me. Lots more toys for the Holleys to tune.
All that out of the way you need about 4 to 6 PSI on pressure on the carb. A high volume high pressure pump does need a regulator. You can get by with a cheap one.
Check the Vacuum canister (Return vapor line). Possibly it is not operating properly and allows pressure to build up in the tank causing it to force gas up through the carb / fuel line after you shut off the truck. Check any vacuum check valves on the way to the Canister. Check the gas cap see if it is working properly.
If this was a Q-Jet I'd say that the jet housing was cracked and needs epoxy. But this is not necessarily an issue with other carbs. Maybe a bad gasket, leaky accelerator pump, or a stuck float. Also change the fuel filter before you install the next one. It is possible your getting debris in the float bowel and it is keeping the needle from seating and shutting off the fuel when the bowel is full.
