Just clean it up and repaint it. By the way it is an A6 compressor. _________________ 1979 El Camino\r\n1955 Chevrolet Del Ray\r\n1962 Corvette\r\n1966 Corvette Coupe

I don't know if it is working OK. You said it was looking ugly so I suggested that you just detail it. If it needs to be repaired I would suggest a rebuilt unit. That old A6 compressor is big and ugly even when new but a lot of Old Timers will tell you it was the best AC compressor that GM ever made. _________________ 1979 El Camino\r\n1955 Chevrolet Del Ray\r\n1962 Corvette\r\n1966 Corvette Coupe

I'm pretty sure that rebuild parts are available from GM but you require some special tools that would cost more than a rebuilt unit. _________________ 1979 El Camino\r\n1955 Chevrolet Del Ray\r\n1962 Corvette\r\n1966 Corvette Coupe
I have the tools needed to install the clutch and the front seals on these unit as these were common repairs back in the day. I can tell you if these tools are still available they cost much more then a remanufactured unit. But why not get the thing working first? Don't try and if it, if it's not broke.
BTY I should be picking up a '78 later this summer and it too has the A6 compressor. I don't plain on keeping this on mine as I would rather have the smaller R4. So I'll let you know later what's involved. _________________ "That the automobile has practically reached the limit of its development is suggested by the fact that during the past year no improvements of a radical nature have been introduced." I just bought an A6 from Murray's auto in the Detroit area and it was only $98 new, no core exchange. I doubt you can rebuild one for less. The clutch alone will prbably cost you more let alone the time and risk it don't work right when your finished.
Good luck though!! _________________ Two tone blue , 350 CI, 1982 Caballero formerly from the great state of OK.
