You probably lost the vacuum supply for the vent doors. Look under the hood between the passenger fender and the heater box. There should be two vacuum lines coming from the passenger compartment, a gray one and a purple one. I forget which one is which, but one goes to the inline valve for circulating the engine coolant through the heater core and the other one hooks to the vacuum reservoir (round black softball size plastic thing near heater box) which is being supplied by intake manifold vacuum. If the line for manifold vacuum has broken, or maybe touched the exhaust manifold and burned, you'll lose the vacuum supply for the vent doors and the blowers fan will be diverted to the defroster vents and floor.

I have a similar issue with a twist and need some advice. I just replaced my entire AC system and the vacum line that runs the vent switching is missing about 6 inches of tube. So...

1. Is it possible to make an inline splice on this line, or, if not...

2. Do I just need to replace the entire line and if so where does the line end up after it runs into the container for the evaporator core?

Thanks in advance,
Mark

You can splice another piece in. Just make sure the new hose is rigid enough so that the hose wall doesn't collapse under vacuum.
