Central, we do rely upon member contributions to keep the site and server running smoothly. As membership grows, so does
site usage. Recently we have seen a huge jump in server load and bandwidth. As a result, at times we notice extremely
slow page loading. Many of you may have also noticed the new member rankings used to recognize supporting members.

pm Post subject: Message Regarding ECC Site Etiquette
Over the past two months, I have received emails and "PMs" from a few members complaining about the tenor in postings by some of our older members. In a few cases, I have had to call or write personally to some of the worst "offenders" and asked them to be more careful in how they respond to newer members or others who are asking what some of us might consider to be "a dumb question." Earlier today, I responded to a post in that same regard, but wanted to post my thoughts here separately so that more members might see this message. Please give it your thoughtful attention. If someone posts a message here on ECC that you find to be rude or condescending, please do not reply in kind in another post. Simply send that person an email or PM off-line (with a cc to me and Robert More) and refrain from personal attacks, even if you feel it may be justified.

I have always been a great advocate of "tongue in cheek humor" and subtle sarcasm when dealing with friends and relatives. That's part of who I am. There are a lot of similar folks who are ECC/NECOA members that do the same.
HOWEVER: When posting on a website to people who don't know you well enough to love you with your unique personality quirks, please remember that they can't see the twinkle in your eyes, the smile on your face, or the bulge of your tongue against your cheek. And that is why we get some angry responses from new members who think they have been flamed or disrespected.
A WORD TO THE WISE: Think twice before you hit the "send" key and re-read your posting from the perspective of the reader you are addressing, as well as anyone else reading the forum. I am not asking anyone to be "politically correct" but this recurring complaint has got to stop. New members should not be alienated or turned off from ECC before they get a chance to know us and benefit from all the information our experienced members are willing to share.
Save the "humour" for the family dinner table, where everyone is used to you, and keep the ECC forums helpul, friendly and inviting to all! Thanks to those of you who make such great contributions to our website. _________________ View my El Camino
