I have a new compressor, accumulator, o rings and orifice tube to install. I also have a Harbor Freight cheapie vaccum pump but I am using a pep boys type retro kit to refill the system and it just has a single fill line and gauge that connects from a freon can to the low side port. No guage set like the pros use.

My question is... what is the best way to pump down the system to clean it out? ( I already know it will hold pressure) In as much as I have to replace all those parts do I just hook the pump line up to the low side service port and leave a connection on the high side or someplace else cracked open?

Considering the equipment you have, I'd be tempted to take the parts to a mechanic with an AC cert, and have them do the job. I think it's unlawful to vent an R-12 system. Let them evacuate the system and recover the R-12. They can then replace the parts, do another evacuation (this time to remove the air) and charge the system to spec.
