Iam trying to get a new tranny and rearend for my 1984 camino ss, i have no idea where to get a good one or what type to get, i know that other chevy parts will fit but i dont know whitch ones will fit on mine, i need to find a rearend that has a little taller gears cause iam on the highway all the time. and i would like to find a tranny that has more than three gears and still be able to race it every now and then. any suggestions would be most helpful. thanks

I am not the best one to give you advice. I just got my Elky. I know that the 200r4 trans is a direct swap, with little fuss. It would give you a 4th overdrive gear and a lockup torque converter, but the shifts are mushy and they are not a strong unit for racing. The 700r4 is a better choice.
This link covers the topic, and you will find another link there to a site that has complete swap info.
