Hi:
Just joined the site here thanks for the info. I am interested in purchasing a 1970 SS 454. The owner seems honest but has not owned the car long and does not have a build sheet or purchase documentation. Is there a way to know if the car is a real SS 454 car based on the numbers somewhere on the car. I read the vin decoding info but did not see options and such being able to be discerned with the vin. Also is 20K about right if it is a true ss car?

Welcome to ECC, Robert. The only way to document a 70 is with the build sheet. There is no codeing on the car. One other possibility is if the protecto plate is still with the car and the RPO was pressed into the plate. _________________ Jim

Newbie here. Thank you. Where is the protecto plate supposed to be located? Also if the motor is original to the car is it supposed to have the same vin stamped on it. I want to buy one but don't want to pay for a non legit car. Thanks.

The plate was used by the original owner when getting service at the dealer. It was kept with the owners manual, looked like a credit card. It had the VIN on it and had some RPO codes. Yes, the last part of the stamped block ID will be the last part of the VIN. _________________ Jim
