I have a 1970 Elky SS. I would like to replace the heat and air box, under hood and dash with an aftermarket unit that would normally be used in a street rod application. These units are used in a variety of cars and trucks. This compact unit with coils and fan would fit under the dash and would eliminate the evaporator box under the hood which would then be covered with a flat plate. A manifold would be utilized for piping the freon for cooling and hot water for heat. They work great in street rods. Has anyone had any experiences with a unit like this in an Elky.
Looks like my question might have been answered in the similar question that arrived before mine...Vintage Air???. This answered alot of my questions but I'll keep looking for others. Thanks

Just last week I had a Classic Auto Air system installed in my '70. That I know of, CAA is the only supplier that makes a kit specific to '70 Chevelles/El Caminos. Because mine is a factory A/C car, I had to pop for an extra $150.00 for the kit to use my dash controls. While I did not do the install myself, I followed it every step of the way.
Everything fit and worked as advertised and it sure is nice to get the engine compartment cleaned up. Should have weighed the pile of discarderd parts and compared it to the weight of the CAA system. I figure my El Camino lost about 75 lbs. or so. I wanted to move the compressor to the passenger side and the alternator to the driver side, but opted not to spend the extra money right now. I will, however, eventually make this change. _________________ Tim
