I know this must have been covered here before but after reading a few pages of old threads and not really finding an answer, I figured I'd ask. Sorry!
Anyway I have a 78 elky 350 4bbl, TH350. AC works good on low humidity days in the 70's and 80's. Works great in the morning and at night. I can even see my breath in the car if I blow toward the vents! But on hotter more humind days, I could almost pass out from the heat in there! Any ideas? Car doesn't overheat or run excessively hot. It has the air deflector on the lower radiator support and seems to have enough r134a as the A6 compressor isn't cycling. Previous owner converted to r134a and changed the reciever, not sure if anything else. Any suggestions? Thanks!

What are the high and low side readings and at what ambient temperature? We need to know these things to start helping you. _________________ 84 Elky with 455 Buick, Tremec TKO600 5 speed, 8.5 3:42 posi -

Another 3 to 9 years should finish it.
Didn't get a chance to throw a set of gauges on it, but on my way to work this morning with temps in the low to mid 60's, I had vent temps from a low of 25*F to 38*F to 42*F. If I sat at a red light for awhile the vent temp would climb through the 60's into the 70's and drop right back to the low 40's after coming away from the light then down again into the 30's.
This evening with the outside temp around 70*F and low humidity the vent temp remained in the 40's, when stopped at a light it rose to about 58-62*F depending on how long I idled.
Coolant level is good, fan shroud all there, no missing pieces and fan spins really fast at idle. But on hotter days its hot under the hood. I was thinking the missing tube (stove pipe) from the exhaust manifold to the air cleaner might be allowing too much heat near the reciever.
So you think maybe the problem is more of an engine compartment temp issue rather than an A/C issue?
What else? Tune up, timing, thermostat,......
I also cleared the fins on the radiator and condenser. Was thinking of wrapping the reciever with that black foam insulation like on the newer cars.
Would the missing hood insulation have any affect?
Your vent temp readings at higher RPMs seem good. I would suspect your
compressor, appears to not be working at lower RPMs. Installing your heat
stove pipe would be advisable, faster warmup and less heat on the reciever.
Good luck with that. Doug _________________ 85 El Camino 305, TH350, K&N, dual exhausts
