ok, so I see that the 305's came with 150hp average for a lot of 4.3l v6's now a days anyways what I want to do is get a whole rebuild kit for the 305 I have new pistons, timing chain, gaskets, mild performance cam, edelbrock performer intake and a edelbrock 600cfm carb port the heads myself put some roller rockers on and add some headers think its nuts to be lookin for at least 200hp? I have a 4cyl 2.2 in my 01 xtreme and I wanted to build a nice looking motor and this one was kinda thrown at me for next to nothing and I wanna get a better sounding engine with some acceleration for my s10 and 200 hp should be an easy low goal to achieve but with those mods what do you think? do I need to do more? after I get a 305 swapped into my s10 I'm gonna try to build up a nice 350 for a different s10 project.

I already have the 305 though bought it complete for 50 dollars gonna tear it down this weekend. and was just wantin a lil advice before I started orderin parts anyone ever ran nitrous on one of these 305's? like a small 100 shot?
Since you are willing to buy all those parts for a cheap 305 block--do yourself a favor order the same parts for a 350 and with the money you save pick you up a scrapyard 350 block and you will end up with a 350 for the same money and 250 hp is real easy to come by then---Since 350 parts are mass produced and 305 parts are definitely not the price difference will amaze you...you can use the crank and rods and heads on the 350 so the only thing you are wasting is the block which is worth near nothing...................at least check the price so you know for sure....Dan _________________ I don't think I have ever had a car that was "FINISHED"........unless it was totaled.
the thing is I know a lot of people around here and can get stuff for cheap, the rebuild kit with everything cost 250 dollars, the intake would be like 100 250 for a carb and 60 for a distributor.. I dont wanna go grab a 350 primarly cause I have a 305 now and I dont wanna hear "get a 350" everyone has a 350 I like to be a lil different I've looked around a lot and I can see I will get what I want its going into a daily drivin truck 70 miles each day 6 days a week I need something thats gonna be reliable and everyone says the 305 is more reliable then the 350 (older blocks anyways) I dont know how true that is but oh well.

you should stay the 305 route if you have the connections for the stuff you want. if you could get your hands on some vortec heads and spend a extra 50 bucks on a edelbrock performer intake. I dont kno how much you wanna spend vortec heads cost 300 bucks a pop which is a great deal they flow and run hard, they have a max cam ift of .475". go with 1.6 ratio roller rockers if you can, to make you cam feel a bit bigger. make sure and get a supercoil and some good wires for that hei, and a nice set of headers. what is the compression ratio on your pistons? a 650 carb would be plenty for you setup. 200 horse should be easily attainable a nice set of headers will give you 15-20hp so i meen if you do your set up you should be in the the 200-220 hp range. the set up i told you would prolly give you around 250-260hp. its too bad you couldnt get your hands on a 350 though, you could be lookin at a 300 hp goal easily rather than a 200hp one good luck! _________________ tim fraley
