Well, yesterday I went to install my edelbrock performer intake manifold and it didnt take long to run into a problem. I figured the carb was the first thing to start taking off and I knew that hardline coming from the fuel pump to the carb had to come off. The hack who worked on my elky before i owned it really managed to mess up alot of things. Anyhow, the smaller-outermost nut is stripped and i got some channel locks on it and the larger nut that HOUSES the smaller one and it wouldnt budge. The line started to kink when i was trying to break free the smaller nut. So before completely tearing up the whole thing I just left it alone.
Where can I purchase this hardline? I looked on rockauto.com (one of my favorite sources for cheap parts btw) and they didnt seem to have it.
Also, my fuel pump has a blocked off line coming out of it (a Nail in the end of the hose)..it might be the return line? Im not positive but if you need a picture to confirm I can get one. Im just trying to improve, and tie up the loose ends some guy completely hacked up on my elky.
I want to rebuild my new carburetor as well unless anyone advices against it. I am up for a challenge but the carb i plan on rebuilding is a carter afb competition series.
i appreciate all the input.

Hey Chillin, You can get hardline, and tubing benders, and a flaring tool set at Jegs, or Summit. But you'll probably spend as much as buying new prebent tube. Not sure about your year Elk, but check with places like Classic Tube, O.P.G.I., The El Camino Store, Ausley's, etc. And if your carb is new, why bother to rebuild it. Once it's on it'll just need to be dialed in.

oh dang so i guess its really not a common part then. i'll check those places out though, thanks. i dont know about bending one unless i really need to.

my carb is not new, its used and I dont know what it takes to rebuild it. It has a manual choke. Half of me wants to just break down and buy a new Edelbrock carb to prevent dealing with it, but it cant be THAT hard to rebuild. Ive got time, tools and patience.
I just know the stock carb is so messed up that its causing the car to run as crappy as it does.

hmm, do you have any pictures of it?

another question I have is, do people replace these with stainless steel/rubber lines? Is it okay to do that or even normal and i'm just unaware of it? I dont have to have the hardline (unless i get a good deal used wink wink). just trying to figure out my options here.

I think you should check with some of your local auto parts supply stores for a braided fuel supply line thats fits your application....Doug
