Hopefully this is an easy one...
Just moved to Oregon(cold) and bought a 1970 El Camino.
My first winter here, and she doesn't want to start up in the morning...
How can I help get that engine warm without cranking 6 times to get the engine going?
Is there some kind of heating pad I can plug in or something like that?
Thanks!

There's several different things you could install to help, they are 120v and you only need to install one. 1) A water jacket heater which replaces one of the freeze plugs on the side of the block is best...but not that easy to install if the engine is in the car. 2) A heating element that installs in your lower radiator hose, you cut the hose in the center and install it using additional radiator hose clamps...pretty easy to install. 3) Least effective is a dipstick type that keeps the oil in the pan warm...doesn't do anything for keeping the water warm in the block...but at least it'll circulate warm oil on start up and help to heat the motor up a bit faster, although it won't make the engine any easier to start. 4) A heated garage...kinda expensive though if you gotta buy one. Quickest, cheapest, easiest and most effective fix is probably #2. Make sure you unplug the cord when you drive off though...unless you've got a really really long extension cord.

You may also want to have a look at your choke operation. With a cold engine, (not running) open the throttle and see if the choke blade fully closes. While you are looking, observe your accelerator pump squirt. Both could have an affect on cold start.

Just an fyi, you can look at a company called Industrial Equipment Co. They sell an engine warmer called a hotstart small tank heater, p/n TPS051GT12-000, $108.07
