First of all Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Second of all, I'm removing the air conditioning from my 71 elky. I've already removed all the bolts from the firewall holding the AC housing. I think. I can see where the housing continues on into the right fender but cannot see anything in there. Are there more bolts in the fender holding the housing on? If so, is there any easy way to remove them.

The dashpad is not off. In a repair manual I have, it says to remove the glove box. Problem is, the glove box and dash look to be all one piece. So I'm at a stand still until I find instructions on how to remove the dashpad. That is NOT in my repair manual. Go figure!

Did a search and found step by step instructions on how to R&R a heater core from an earlier post. I have a pretty good idea on how to do this now. I think. lol!

Sounds good, Just FYI- to pull the pad, there are a row of screws along the top of the hard part of the dash. You open the glove box for two. With these out, lift up on the back of the pad and pull tward you. There are a row of clips along the front that will slide out as you pull back. Sometimes a clip or two will come loose from the dash as you are removing but they go back easy. Reinstall in reverse order, start the clips in place and push forward and then down in the back. After a time or two, it's a snap. With the pad out you have excelent access to the dash area as well as all the heat/ac parts. _________________ Jim

I did get the a/c housing out. success! I had to unbolt the inner fender well and drop it down. That is the ticket. I changed my mine about removing the heater core. It seems like a waste of time to me. As far as the 5x8 gaping hole in my firewall, I fabbed up a box to fit over it out of aluminum. Looks good.
PS. It feels great to be able to reach #8 plug and it cleans up the engine bay.
