My blower motor does not work. When I flip the speed slection lever I hear a "click" at all positions. I tested the blower motor and is functional. The "click" sound seems to be coming from a relay? mounted near the distributor on the firewall. Any ideas or trouble shooting suggestions.

Hey Earl, have you had any luck with your problem?
I pulled the Airconditioning "box" (engine bay side) and the Heater "box" (interior side) from my '75. My fan does work and I haven't really looking into the detailed working yet.
Let me know if you want some advice and I will take a long hard look at mine. _________________ John (from Down Under)

Could be the relay, could also be the fuse. Does the CLICK sound happen when you push the cold lever all the way to the left or when you put the AC on MAX. The blower motor circuit is split for the high speed fan position for some reason and often times it's the blower motor or the fuse that's the problem. IF there's a problem with the high speed circuit it usually means the relay has gone bad.
You mentioned that the blower works but does it only work on one speed or in the whole range. WHat was you test setup like. You may only be seeing the high speed circuit operating with straight battery juice.
Also if your engine setup is still original check the back of the head on the passenger side for a small plug with an electrical lead sticking out of it. This sensor was supposedly put there to shut the AC system down if the engine started running too hot. It interrupts the AC clutch circuit and can cause weird problems if it fails.
It's kind of a pain to get to but you can feel around the back of the head and find it fairly quickly if you try. _________________ 74 El Camino Classic - project car #1

I have not solved the problem yet. I put it on the back burner while I replace the both rear and driver side floor pans. Before I put the seat back in I will get the motor working because it is a pain in the rear end to try and "shoot under" the dash while it is in. (Not as limber as I used to be) . I will use your suggestions and let you know when I get back to it.
Thanks for the replys!!
Earl
Elky77...Tried that first and it didn't solve the problem. _________________ 1974 SS 454/400

No worries Earl, I hate to see a thread languishing with no replies and I thought I might either be able to help or learn something myself.
When I bought my El Camino the guy showed me an in line fuse holder in the engine bay which was broken and he reckons that was the reason why the high speed was not working on my fan. I will be checking that out soon while I have the boxes out and before the refit. The in line fuse holder is in the loom up near the back of the RH head and the Air Conditioning "box" with yellow wires. Anybody know if this is factory or if it is a bodge up job? _________________ John (from Down Under)
