I think it would be cool to open the hood sideways. There are some hinge kits out there in street rod circles that will open to either side just by pulling a pin on the side you want to open. But then again I don't really want to show off my diesel engine that much.

I am keeping pics as we progress. as of now the car is just a shell. Engine is about back together and painted. Ready to start priming the engine compartment now. We have a target date of March 15th for completion. If we keep adding changes, I dont know if we will make it....LOL.
I wonder if the stock hinges turned around and used on oposite sides would work?

they are even cooler when they are 800 hp diesels stuffed into a 65 Impala

sorry didn't mean to hijack, anyway have you looked at or for hinges and hood shocks from a mid 80's style corvette? at the least it could give you some ideas
if you dont mind spending a little money, www.electric-life.com has reverse hood kits. i know they make power ones and they might do regular manual ones too. if you go to gpsuperstore.com and join up, using myself as a reference with this username and all, Frank can work out a nice discount on everything from Electric Life in the active GP section of the forum.
