After searching for a decent big block for the last year or so I came across an 89 IROC-Z that had been totalled for the paltry sum of $500. The car has a 5.7 TPI (supposedly from a vette), and a manual five speed. Aside from the fact that the body is twisted, (damned unibodys!), the car runs like a bat outta hell.
I'm a thinkin that TPI sure would look good in the ol' elky.
Now, installing the engine itself is not problem, gobs of room in the elky, but I was wondering how much of a pain it would be to transplant the ECM or PROM.
Woud it be easier to cann all the electronics from the donor car or wire it into the existing elky harness?
I'm also thinking about swapping the tilt column and instrument cluster as well.
Any thoughts?

It would probably be easier to get a new harness from Painless or Howell. Just FYI Vette 350's would have aluminum heads and the standard angle on the center bolts on the intake manifold. As you probably know GM changed these angles on the 87 up iron heads. Also, no 350 TPI's ever came with a 5 speed. someone has done some swapping around on this car. But, for the price its a good deal. you could probably get your money back if you sold all the 5 speed parts on thirdgen.org if you decide to keep an auto in the Elky.
