pm Post subject: LT1 build... the way it should be 383
haha... here is my slow el camino motor.
Here is my story. Bought my El Camino from a friend of mine who owned a corvette shop. He swapped the motor into this car from a 94' vette back in 95 with 4300 miles on it. He drove the car to about 23K miles and then parked it. I recently bought it and a month after I had it I took it out for a weekend of abuse!
I warped my rear end (GN 8.5" with 3.73's) and blew a head gasket. I figured if he had to dig into the motor... why not tear it down! So my low mile LT1 is now a 383 LTX.
I don't know much of the build... it was by my uncle down here (R & J Competition Engines) and I told him to use the best. All I know is that it has an LT4 intake manifold, 58MM throttle body, rocker roller something or anothers... everything is ported to the max.
Was flowing... I believe 270 and then I bought the new manifold so they had to port it more. Should throw down good numbers when I make it to the dyno.
My uncle (The Builder) said a carburated 383 would have thrown down my numbers plus a lot more HP but I stayed fuel injected with my corvette computer so that I can utilize other corvette items as well... _________________ 1996 Ford Thunderbird Pearl White - NO MORE
You'r telling me! haha I just figured I would post pictures of it... words aren't worth much as some people tend to extend the truth on the internet, but I have proof!!! haha
My family and family business have funded me for all 21 years of my life. I have always been good in school and done nothing less than the best.
Problem is, I will now have no time to finish my car! I plan on driving it but not doing the paint, body, and some customizing for another 18 months.
I have completed 4.5 years of school in the last 3 years. I am 3 classes short of my bachelors in Health Care Administration. (average student takes 4 classes at 12 credit hours, I averaged 21 credit hours) Plus, I was 1 of 30 students to get accepted into the fast paced 18 month nursing program. So in 18 months I will be a RN (registered nurse).
Please bare with me for a while. Hope to bring my car out to a few weekend events but I will be VERY busy. When I start making my own money my Elco will be top notch! NO EXCUSES!
I have been jumping numbers lately in my head. I WANT to dyno atleast 800 HP to the wheels on spray but I think shooting for 700 is more realistic. My engine man said it will handle a 300 shot no problem so I am thinking for the dyno I will spray it on a 2 stage just to get my number and then I will not spray agian unless I am racing for money. Maybe do a 100/200 or a 75/225. Kind of like the 75 if at the last second I need to jump out on someone and a 225 if I am racing someone serious.
I will update this page with my dyno sheets when ever I have time to play with my car! This school is kicking my butt... mostly the 6:30 AM practicals.
Thanks for the update can't wait to see what kind of numbers she puts down. _________________ 1979 el camino 355ci sbc, t56 viper trans, grand national 8.5 rear

I don't see 800 HP being that unrealistic if I spray the ship out of my car? Not to the wheels... maybe 720 to the wheels? You must admit, these 383's are very effecient and with the progressive 100/200 or 150/200 shot or something along those lines with the car at 500+ N/A... I should be damm close.
Im all paid up for everything and have tons of pics! I really need to get a thread going for the entire build. My QA1 coil overs, QA1 shocks, UMI adjustable CTRL arms, poly bushings, frame notch, braided lines front to back, etc. Only thing I am waiting for is my fuel lines to be delivered so this build can be done with!
My guys at B&C Customs work fast... same day I drop it off, the car will be rolling. After that I just have to schedule an appointment to have my motor dropped in a wired up.
I like your motor build. As I have always said, Im not interested in going to the track or even trying to have the fastest car. My guy with the viper who was at about 1000 HP 1100 TQ had is motor completey rebuilt and the car is ready for TT and is shooting for a 1500 HP street car. Theres no point in trying to compete with friends like that. (will post a video of me racing him soon!) and people who say its a waste, his car hooks dead as it is now, so from a roll with the addition it should keep on truckin
800 is my limit. If you want to see where I live and the cars I am up against. Go to Southfloridaracing.com and look under videos. Kids are bringing out 500+ WHP Honda hatch backs (blow up after 2-3 runs)... People are even roll racing 60 - 160. I am really into it for the show and not so much the go. (why I have a sprayed LTX and not a TT or step up to LSX platform) I was truley interested in the reliability of the motor and being able to hook at the power band I'm at without fully tubbing it.
List of a few cars that come out that you will see in the thread...
GT500 bolt ons and spray, few Z06's with work and spray, 2 Vipers with spray... one has Alcohal too, porche GTR2...
Funny thing, the fastest cars out there are these 2 1990's camaro running single digits, and a big block monte carlo.
