Okay, I'm not really a dummy when it comes to electricals or mechanicals... I just like to poke fun where I can
Anywho, my elk has idiot gauges, much to my own chagrine, and they got to go. (Mainly, because I don't know if they even work... and having idiot lights that don't tell you when you're an idiot... is trouble)
I read the stickied post on the subject, but I'm still left with some questions... It mentions a circuit board I'd have to install? Where can I find such a thing? Is it dependent upon the types of gauges I'd buy? What are some good gauges I can get that will be easy to install, and inexpensive, and preferably somewhat accurate, and where can I get them?
I saw a digital display on The El Camino Store... but it costs $1,000 >.>

If your talking about the sticky about swapping the sweep speedo to the round speedo with the center gauge cluster. Then the circuit board will be on the back of the new gauge assembly. I forget the proper name for it. But its piece that bolts on to the main dash assembly. The gauges, speedo and tach or clock fit on this along with the lights. Mikes Montes sells replacement circuit boards. Its not a hard swap to do. The hard part is finding the parts with out any broken mounting tabs. montecarlossdot com has a for sale section and there seem to be alot of these assemblies for sale there. The later ones will have a 120 MPH speedo with a 6 grand tach. Actually I think there is one for sale on this board.
I Believe that assembly is call a pod. I bought mine from an ebay seller. A gauge pod should have all the gauges in it and the circuit strip actually.
You will need to change the water temp switch to a sensor and add an oil pressure sensor.
The temp sensor will replace the temp switch located between #1 and #2 spark plugs on the left side of the block. The oil pressure sensor will need to be screwed in just above the oil filter mount after removing the plug and the tan wire that is connected to the oil pressure switch below the distributor can be cut and pulled thru the split in the harness plastic cover, install a female spade connector and attach it to the new oil sensor.
