I just bought my first el camino, well honestly i dont even have it yet but i am so excited cause its mine..just waiting for payday to go pick it up! a friend of mine picked it up over the winter and parked it and has not touched it since...it is a 78, and it has ss emblems on it..im not sure it is a true ss though...so any info on how to tell would be graetly appreciated...it has a 350 and im told a 350 turbo trans with some high prformace upgrades, cam, crank, maifold, and hooker headers. she is jet black with red pinstripes and rally wheels. she needs a lil tlc and some parts such as a new grill and head lights, tailgate skin, etc. i cant wait to get started...my dad had a 76' when i was a kid and always had big plans for it but never got to see his dream come to life so this is going to be fun for both of us. i dont know much at all about the el caminos other than i have always wanted one so i hope some of you more expeianced folks will be willing to learn this hoosier a thing or two about my new ride.

unforchanatly dad wont be along for this project but it is still gonna be fun...i went to get a better look at the car today and get some numbers off of it...it has ss emblems on the dash but i got the vin and hope to put that question to bed...she def is gonna need some work but she has a strait body and not much rust at all...just a little around the rockers and inside doors...interior is HIT!!!...some things will be fairly easy to restore but some of the inner door pannels are so dryrotted they will have to be replced....looks like all the boddy trim is there but someone has taken a grill of an 80's chevy and atached it with drywall screws...lmao...i am gonna get some pics up as soon as i can so yall can see this car and let me know wat you think

Fixer upper? Looks pretty good to me, but I do notice the unmown grass so can imagine that it hasn't turned a wheel for a while.

From this distance Laugh I would say you have a nice one there, I like the colour, wheels and the interior.

Hey Mike,

It looks like you've got a decent project to work on. If you need info, there are lots of folks here willing to give you their experience.

spent the evening putting a major tune up on it last night...finally got her running and more importantly idling....she had been setting a few yrs...good news is she does not smoke at all! and the headers and duals all the way out the back sound really good.....but with the good comes some bad.....reverse is out and drive is barly there!...so im in the market for a new trans...well a good used one anyway...lol...with im hoping soes not kill my budget....the engine is strong as i said but i just dont think it has the performance up grades the the guy was told it had when he bought it....but still at less than a 1000 for the car...i think i did alright i got about 2300 left in my imediate budget...after that it will be a week by week part here part there restoration.
