For those that don't know I recently bought back my 71" project that I started in 2004 in Ca. I sold it when I moved to Mi because I just had no place to keep it. Well it dried up enough here two weeks ago for me to be able to bring home from where it spent the last couple years.
I was sick when I finally saw it, rust every where. I actually thought about just pulling the engine and trans and parting it out. The shock has finally worn off and I am more determined than ever to give this poor abused mut new life.
I spent the whole day orginizeing the project at hand. I like to hang all my parts on the walls so they can be easely located when I need them, my barn looks kinda like an exploder veiw elky.
I am not used to this corrosive enviroment yet being from the deserts of So Cal. I wonder if I can make the elky somewhat more rust proof? Has anyone ever fogged the inside of there quarter panels, doors, and fenders with POR-15? I have a big job a head almost like starting fresh.
Well mothers day is tomorrow so no work, but you can guess what I will be thinking about.
I am going to try and record the process with digital pics. Hopfully I will figure out how to post some here.

Firstly a hello to you and a welcome home to your Elky.
It sounds like your ready to go on your restoration and documentation project. I hope you are able to get all of the time you need to devote to this calling. And I hope you enjoy the journey. Keep your eye on the prize..you know that perfect image of complete... thats been in your head since you first fell in love with the car and saw its potential.
I look forward to watching the process with updates and PICS.

My '69 has been apart since 01. It all over my garage. The frame has been finished for years but the body is still on a rotisserie. Last fall I bought a '86 that had been sitting in my buddies salvage yard for 4 years. All winter I have been working on this to make it road worthy. I'm getting close. Darn it I just wanted a El Camino to drive. I'll get back on the '69 when I can.
The best of luck with yours, all it takes is a crap load of determination!

I sprayed the inside of my 55 Chevy with POR, it did a great job. Matter of fact it's still sitting a year later waiting for my attention.
Do, I say again, Do wear a respirator (SCBA if you have one) and cover up every bit of skin you can, that stuff is tough on the lungs and skin.
I did just sort of mist it in....you may want to shoot with a primer type nozzle for better coverage, I believe I used a 2.0, and clean the gun immediately.
The 55 floors and inner panels still look good for sitting out under a tarp all this time.
Hope this helped.

3 weekends ago I put a soft tonnau cover over my unfinished bed. Last weekend, I pulled about half of the bolt-ons under the hood off to start attacking the winter corrosion and rust (that came from the car sitting under a shelter and the cold engine acting like a big iced tea glass does in the summertime). This weekend I pulled off the rest of the bolt-ons and started cleaning/polishing it all. Even painted a few parts in prep for reassembly before time to do Mother's day stuff on Sunday.
While everything's off, I plan on painting the firewall red to match the body color. It'll help teh area not look so much like a cave when the hood's up. Should be up and running in a week or so.
Got to keep the process going, if only to give MGS72Elky in Premonition-I a decent run for his money at the next car show. _________________ 70 Elky (Non-SS) 454CID, TH700-R4

On saturday I put on the new tail lights, reverse lights front side markers and painted the bumper brackets.
This weekend the wife goes out of town so I should be putting on the bumpers, weld up the exhaust and put on the grill and headlamps.

Nothing really, however this weekend my father and I are going to put new front brake pads on before I go to prom... And no I don't litterally mean before the prom, I mean in the morning before prom. _________________ The Blue Beast

Well its been a month or so... After trying to cut my right index finger off with a 4 inch grinder I was slowed a bit but I am back at it. Got the new shocks, removed the steering colum for a color change and clean/lube, fixed the ignition switch and nuetral saftey switch, Removed the master cylinder and booster cleaned and painted, and repaired/rewired alt idiot lights. I am now waiting for the windshield and molding clips to arrive.
POR-15 is really tough stuff. Believe them when they say it doesn't come off when dry. I am now running around with two black spots above my right eye that I did not realize I had gotten on me till it was too late. I tried to get it off anyway but it remove skin with it so I guess I will wait for it to wear off. Later.

Well I have not gotten a lot done in the last month, due to further disappointing finds. I took the front suspension apart to clean up the worst of the rust and found out the former owner had put 2" lowering spindles from Superior on the car/truck. He also had the calipers installed on the wrong sides so the bleeder was facing down, no way to bleed them. I tried locateing some stock ones but there just not in the budget. The first pic is how everything underneath looks now it is just going to have to be good enough.
