I have a chance to buy a maroon interior from a guy here with an '87 Monte Carlo. He's got the console & shifter, bucket seats and other parts.
Q: Do the Monte door panels from the '87 Monte fit my '84 Elk? Will everything else fit my Elk from his '87 Monte???
I want to go see it tonight, so any accurate input would be great!!!
If it's a match, I'll need help figuring out how to remove the dash and inst cluster to swap it all out.
For now...the door panels & console w/shifter. Do they fit my '84?
Thanks alot!!

Not sure about the door panels. but the shifter, console, seats, gauge cluster and trim will fit. If you havent done the bucket seat conversion yet, those are all the parts you will need.

He's selling me bucket seats, console & shifter daily driver condition for $250. Does that sound good?
The trim you speak of. Would that be the a-pillars & window trim & the kick panels and what else.
Looks like I'll be looking at it tomorrow after work.

The dash, door panels, "A" pillar trim, seats and console will all swap into your El Camino.

Way too much for daily driver condition. I'd pay $50 for the seats and $40-50 for the console. Check to see if the console door hinge is broken. _________________ Ernie

Ernie, you and I might get away with paying that, but this guys over in Hawaii, and parts gotta be slim to none, and would cost an arm and a leg to ship them from over here. I'd say make the guy a fair reasonable offer based on the condition. Everything will fit from and including the doors forward, everything from the door opening back will not, also the headliner won't fit and it's probably toast anyway.

The trim i was talking about is for the dash, radio and A/C vents above the glove box. Some of the SS' had black trim with a red stripe. Lokks much sportier then the basic Elky trim. And its a bolt on to boot.
For that much coin I'd be asking for the trim and steering column to go with the parts. I'm not a big fan of maroon interiors. I'd be looking to change colors if it were me. Not sure what your plan is but it does sound a bit steep. Are you getting the gauge cluster also?

Seller of an '87 Monte Carlo SS said today for $250, take the whole car or take what you want.
How's that? Is that a good deal now?
Inst cluster/pillar trim/windshield/bucket seats/console/shifter/door panels/everything that's left!
WHEELS-Does anyone have the Monte SS wheels on their Elk around the '84 model?
They don't look too bad, but just want to get an idea what they look like on one of your cars.
Thanks & Aloha,
Scott

Take the whole car. Look at 87ElCamino's sig. Those are SS wheels on his. good looking combo. You also get what ever chassis braces might be on the car. Plus, you get the 3.73 rear gear, and its a bolt in. Might even be a posi. If you go to montecarlossdotcom and post in the parts for sale. There is at least one member over in Hawaii somewhere. you might even get some of your money back. Sounds like a good score.

Tom,
Can you be a little more specific about parts you mentioned like (Chassis braces) Extra bracing sounds good since I will eventually be putting a 455 BBB in my '84. Will the core support fit my car? How about any better suspension. I have real loose suspension right now and I don't know if a car 3 years newer would make a difference. I would love to find out the sway bars are better as well as coil springs.
I know I'm looking for the easy way thru this, but specifics would help me so I don't leave anything to the junk yard..
Thanks & Aloha,
Scott

F41 braces run from the front crossmember by the oil pan to the outer front frame rails by the sway bar. There may or may not be a cross brace to connect the two F41 braces. Front sway bar you'll need to measure to see if its bigger then yours. Rear would be a bolt on. I'm guessing you dont have a rear sway bar. The steering box should be a quicker ratio also. Unless someone swapped out the other suspension pieces for aftermarket stuff, its the same as yours. If its as loose as you say. You might as well rebuild it. You would have it all apart to swap the used monte stuff in your anyway. If you have it all apart, do it once and be done with it. Not sure on the core support. Someone with more knowledge then me will have to answer that. If you dont have sport mirrors those will fit. If the nose and rear spoiler are in good shape pull those also. Good trade bait for Monte owners. Make sure you get the mounting brackets for the console. Those will be spot welded to the floor. You can drill or grind the welds to get them out. Its late and I'm tired. thats all I can think of at the moment. Good luck.
You can get replacement lids. I noticed just the other day that Mikes's Montes had them in several different colors for 79 or 89 bucks. here
I'm running Monte SS sway bars and steering box as well as several other pieces. They make a big difference. _________________ 84 Elky with 455 Buick, Tremec TKO600 5 speed, 8.5 3:42 posi -

Anyone know if the '87 Monte SS had a better trans than the TH350?
Also, anything else I should take from the Monte?
Will the doors from the '87 Monte fit my '84 Elk?
Anyone care to add anything else before I jump in and start taking parts off?
Many thanks,
Scott

There are soooo many things that will enterchange from a Monte Carlo to a fifth gen. El Camino.
They are basically the same car except one has a pickup bed!
I parted out an 88 Monte SS and what I didn't sell I kept for use on my 82 Elky.
So far I've used the HO305 engine, 3:73 rear end and sway bar, evaporator core, heater core, section of steering column from rag joint to steering box, door hinges, some interior trim parts, master cylinder, and still have some parts up in the attic in case I ever need them.
If you get the whole car my advice is (if you have a place to store the stuff) take just about everything you can unbolt off the Monte and save it.
You'll be surprised at what you may need for your Elky in the future that will fit from the Monte Carlo. _________________ Bobby
