Does anyone know how to recalibrate the speedometer or a place that a 120mph speedo can be purchased for a 1980 elky. The 80 mph one just shoud'nt be. Thanks Atlas
You don't actually calibrate the speedometer. You'll need to replace the speedo gear in your transmission. You'll need to get one based on the rear axle gears and tire size to show the correct speed. I found this link in another post on this same issue. http://www.tciauto.com/Products/TechInfo/speedo_gears.asp
As for the 120 MPH speedo, you can get that out of a Monte Carlo SS, EC SS or any number of other G body cars that used it.
I'm still looking for the round gauge cluster (as apposed to the sweeping gauge speedo my car came with) for my '81. I've been told if you want to swap the whole gauge cluster, you also have to get the electrical connector from the donor car since the wiring is a bit different. It's getting harder to find a MC SS in the bone yards though. If I ever find one, I'm taking the rear axle and sway bar componants from it too. _________________
