Well, my car is slowly going through it's customization process (paint/body in progress - rims and tires on the way).

I bought a "donor" 383 motor surrounded by a C4 corvette - and although I was going to use the 700R4, I am now leaning towards a 5-6 speed (I have a clutch assembly - not installed). Prior to doing the engine, I was wanting to build/start with the rear end first, and was thinking that I have a perfectly good (and presumably strong) independent Dana rearend in the corvette.

I'm sure that modification would be required (axles/mounting) but my was wondering if anyone had any experience in doing this or heard of anyone having success with this?

My (maybe not so logical) thought process:
1. 383 is currently putting 425 - 450hp to the rear wheels, and would shred the stock unit in a day.
2. More popular option of GN rear would cost about as much as fabrication of C4 rear end (assuming fabrication is a possibility)
3. Handling improvement would be a big plus at the cost of loss of functionality of the utility of el camino.
4. Plan to be a moderate driver/minimal hauler/but shower on the weekends.

Any thoughts perspectives experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
KB

I've seen Vette' rears in everything from first to fifth gen's.

You may want to change out the leaf spring, or convert to a coil-over system.
