Hello all,

Long time viewer, 1st time poster.

My elko has been done for some quite some time now and is usally very reliable. Here is what it is doing and some of the things that I have checked out.

The car will fire only when in the start position and then die in th run position. I broke out the test light to see if I get juice @ the coil when the key is in the run position and nothing, when I have my son crank it over to get it started I get juice. My 1st thought was the solenoid and replaced it and got the same results as before. My 2nd thought is the ignition switch itself which I dreading I don't want to have to take everything apart to get to it or is it pretty easy?

What are your thoughts, could it be the neutral safety switch or when that goes bad my car will not even crank?

Thanks in advanced.

Joker

There should be 2 wires on the + side of the coil. One runs from the R terminal on the starter. It supplies full battery voltage to the coil when cranking.
The second wire is a resistor that drops the current to the coil to help prevent arcing and point wear. This one runs to the ignition switch 'I' terminal IIRC.
Most likely the resistor or the switch is bad. Check the resistor wire for continuity.Check the ignition terminal at the switch with your test light. Should be hot with the key on.
