am Post subject: 1985 bench seat back
just joined today. I have search everywhere no answer. My seat back tilts to far back and it appears that the latch is broken Love my 85' in good shape but hard to drive leaning so far back. How can I fix?
If you can find another 5th gen Elky in a junk yard, you may be able to remove the latch and swap it with yours. I've never done this, so I don't know how much work it would be. Otherwise, find another seat and replace yours.
I have the bench seat out of mine, I'll take a look and see if I can figure out how to get the latch off.
Update: I would have to pull the cover off the seat to get a better look at it, but it seems the latch is part of the frame and I couldn't see how to get it off. Which means it would have to be shipped whole. It would probably be pretty expensive. _________________ My "Hell Camino" Homepage

Thanks for the reply. I found a body shop that has restored El Caminos and they advised they can re-drill some stop pin holes and re-pin the hinge to keep the seat from tilting so far back. I'll see

am Post subject: 5th Gen Bench Seat Back Repair
Please elaborate more on how this fix is done. I was assh*led about 3 weeks after I got my '87 finished and moved to Omaha, and the seat back has to be held away from the rear wall by a padded 2x4. I haven't had the time to dig into this yet since I don't have a garage to work on it in, but is this condition typically a case where the seat frame itself is bent beyond repair, or is the fix as simple as repositioning the latch assembly? _________________ Alan H.
