I HAVE A 1980 EL CAMINO 305. I HAD THE ENGINE REBUILT AND AFTER I GOT THE CAR BACK NOTHING WORKED. HEADLIGHTS, TAIL LIGHTS BRAKE LIGHTS, REVERSE LIGHTS, DASH LIGHTS, DOME LIGHT, HORN, DOOR CHIME. THE MECHANIC WAS NO WHERE TO BE FOUND SO I TOOK MATTERS IN TO MY OWN HANDS. I BOUGHT A POWER PROBE AND CHECKED GROUND AND ALL FUSES GOOD. IM NOT GETTING POWER TO THE SWITCH. I SHOT 12V WITH MY PROBE TO THE HEADLIGHTS AND TAIL LIGHTS AND THEY WORKED. THE ONLY THING THAT HAS BEEN WORKING ARE MY TURN SIGNALS. IM BAFFLED I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO NEXT.
First of all - Welcome to the site, even if you did come in desperation, you will stay because we are all just such nice guys.
We try and keep the all caps to a minimum - except for shouting.
Now, I would start by checking the wiring at the starter solenoid. You say you just had an engine change so I would guess they missed one of the fusible links and didn't get it reconnected with the battery cable or one of them is blown. On most of the 5th gens there will be two wires connected with the cable to the main post of the solenoid. They are the main power supplies for the vehicle. _________________ 84 Elky with 455 Buick, Tremec TKO600 5 speed, 8.5 3:42 posi -
