I was wondering what the boxes below the speedometer are for. Are they lights, gauges, or what? I mean the car has no computer so I'm puzzled as to what they are.

Any 4th gen. owners know? They are right below the turn signal indicators.

You will have to be more discriptive in what you are asking. I have a 4th gen. and have restored many others. The only thing below the speedo is the steering and AC duct work. What do they look like? It may be something someone has added along the way at some point and time. Do you have an alarm system on your car? If so it could be its brain. Does it have wires? Do they look like relays? Heck ~~~~ I could go on & on, but there only guesses.

I know I have to explain its hard to do without putting up pictures, but I'll try. If you're looking at the turn signal indicators to the left or right of the speedometer, about a 1/2 inch to an inch below them are about six rectangular boxes measuring somewhere around .25 inch by 1 inch, this is all inside of the plastic enclosure with the speedometer. When I meant below the speedometer I didnt mean that far down/underneath, that was my fault.

They sound like they are thermal breakers, (circut breakers) but I'm still saying it's a guess. Hang in there, I'm sure someone will chime in that can provide you with a great deal more information. I gave it a shot, but at a loss with you.

Well I'll try to be even more descriptive, alright if you were to get inside of the car without taking anything apart its on the face of the speedometer( I dont know if this would be correct terminology) just as if you were looking to check your speed its just below the speedometer I mean literally just about 2 inches below the numbers on the speedometer

Gotcha~~~~~ Those are little windows for IDIOT Lights, wether you have them or not I Don't know. Yes they would have bulbs in them from the rear that would light the box, IE Brake / OIL / TEMP ect. You can shine a small flash light from the back to illuminate them to see what each is for, but you will have to remove the light socket of each first, if so equiped. Man "O" Man did I have a BRAIN FA#T on that one.

I must admit, I did think you were talking that they were located on the rear of the dash bezel, that's what confused me.

i just love that you referred them as idiot lights... it was kinda like a punch line of a joke reading through the thread to essentially call both of yourselves idiots ... (not that i mean that but re-read it and you'll see) from the initial description you guys were both confused as to what they were.
