Well if it's the original,it would be a corporate 10-bolt 7 1/2 ring gear. As far as posi and gear size goes, you need to see what the "G" codes are on your option label in your glove box.

G80-posi (if no G80 listed,than no posi)

GU1- 2.41
GH2-2.29
GM8-2.56
GU2-2.73
GU4-3.08
GT4-3.73

The rear end gearing depended on the engine. The LB4 4.3L V6's got 2.56 as a standard rear end. If you have a 4.3L V6 and the G92 "Performance Ratio" option, it's a 2.73 rear end. The LG4 5.0L V8's got 2.41 as a standard rear end. If you have a 5.0L V8 and the G92 "Performance Ratio" option, it's a 3.08 rear end. These were the only four rear ends offered in the 5th generation El Camino.

Let us know what you have.

The VIN will not tell you what rear end you have. Look at the option label in the glove box. If there is a G92 code on it you have a 3.08 rear, if there is not a G92 code then you have a 2.41 rear.

I have a set of 3.08:1 gears out of my 80 SS, they are in good shape if anyone locally wants them they are free. I won't ship them anywhere. I had planned to throw them away I just haven't gotten around to it yet.
