I am shaving the door handles on my elky. I got a kit from Autoloc but the directions are a little sketchy. I have a pretty good wiring diagram but I'm not sure what gage of wire I need to run to the actuator and I'm not sure where I should go for a power source. I need a constant hot that will power the actuator itself and I also need a switch on hot for the safty circut. I was thinking about putting in an add on fuse panel but I'm still not sure where to get the power from for that or if it is even needed.
I am pretty good with body work and intierior work but the electrical stuff kind of scares me. Any help would be appreciated.

Steve, More Info is needed to answer your question. (NEED to know the required amps needed to opperate your actuator's to determine the min. wire size / fuse size) But yes, you should, or better, be sure that a fuse IS used on the power supply wires. _________________ http://elcaminocentral.com/gallery-album_CoyoteOn2s77Cage.html

Here lies the problem. No were in the instructions does it say how many amps these things draw. The actuators are Autoloc 45lb units. If anyone out there knows how many amps these things pull. I'm sure there is a way to test them but I'm not sure how.

Steve, with the 45# door poppers you should be ok with a 14 gauge wire, they only draw current for 1 to 2 sec. I would try and use a 15 amp fuse to start with, but you may have to jump up to a 20. If memory serves me right, I beleave the 45 pounders have a max rateing of 30 amps.

Thanx for the info on wire gauges and amps. I have pretty much decided to get the add on fuse panel from painless. Were would be a good place to hook into the system for this. Should I just hook into the power at the starter? _________________ yes it really does have a diesel engine

That's perfect! And It's Main feed wire, (the new box) will most likely be a fussed one with a large Jumbo 30 /40 / 50 amp fuse. It will also come with very good Instructions. You will be pleased with your choice.
