I was changing a vaulve cove gasket and when I removed it I disconected the alternator.I accidently forgot to reconnect the wires to the alternator and eventual when the batt died the car no longer ran.So I charged the battery and started up the car I let it run for about 5 minutes then turned it off. When I tried to start it again it would not start no crank nothing.I took the battery out again and fully charged it and same result the car started and ran untill I turned it off the would not restart.any thoughts on a quick fix would be nice and yes I check that the gound wires are tight.

It is possiable that just by coincedence that your Batt. has come to the end of it's life span, or your Alt, same senario. Take the Batt. and Alt. to your local AutoZone for load testing. If all your connections are good, and fusses are good, thats where I'd begin. Not real sure if your Alt. Batt. wire has a fussable link or not. (Not likely)You can Ohm it out to see if it is compleating a circut

I have power to the headlights and the aftermarket radio deck so I dont think it is the batt.would the alternator being bad stop the car from getting power to the starter because it will not even crank it is like I have no power to anything.

Sounds like the fussable link to the Starter Selonoid is blown, Should be a Purple wire. Open the link and see at the bottom of the page the wireing for starter. In that Purple Wire there is a fussable Link, if it is soft or real flexable it is blown and needs to be replaced. NOTE: It is part of the wire, molded in the wire
