Maximus, on my 81 it exits the tailgate at the bottom and runs through the lower portion of the bed, then runs behind the rear bumper where the plug is. The wire is encased in a protective cover that has grommets on each end that secure to the body and tailgate.

That info oughta help,because I do have the grommets in place and the wire isnt that long so I knew it would be somewhere back there. My vision isnt that great,so I havent even looked yet.I just installed the 'gate' 2 days ago. I think with a good flashlight I'll be OK. Thanks
