easy. just make sure to get all the brackets and pullies. and dont think you can run a mechanical fan, not gonna happen with the rad in the stock location. and last thought if you want to drive it on a common basis put new front springs in the car... my old v6ers were like 2" lower than with an iron headed small block... _________________ 84 camino SBC shiny heads and more than 10 bolts

If you have A/C you may run in to clearance problems between the A/C box and the valve covers. Weight and heat will be big issues under the hood. Upgrade the cooling system. And as mentioned new front springs. The tranny and rear end probably wont last long behind a big block. If you want headers, Hooker and Lemmons are the only two that come to mind.

3 years ago i pulled the 305 ci out of my '84 elcamino ss, i dropped in a '74 454 out of a one ton chevy truck. it took the better part of a summer but i reinstalled all the excessories, power steering and air-cond,even the original radiator fan from the 305 engine. i had a four core radiator made at benson radiator to the dimensions of the original radiator so the fan shroud even went back in. the brackets worked just fine until i got to the a/c, then i had to refabricate them a little bit to clear the bbc exhaust manifold. i did have to replace the front coil springs with springs from a bbc pick up truck, now it sits perfect and handles the extra weight when turning. for performance you might have to replace you trans and rear end, but since mine is just for cruising i still have the original 350 turbohydro and 10 bolt rear end. good luck with your conversion, i have never been sorry about mine. _________________ mk454

I would have never thought fullsize springs would fit a G-body. I guess ya learn something new everyday. with the prices of gas the way they are now, however, it would be nice if you could use a 4L80e trans. IDK if you can make that work with a carbed engine though... _________________

i think your right about the springs, i just went with what the suspension shop recommended that i ordered springs from. also someone once suggested a 4l80e to me and siad he thought if i got the wiring from the car it came out of and a fuel injection system from a chevy truck with 454 it might work. but i don't know for sure, maybe a trans shop tech line could help you with that, or use a 700 4r _________________ mk454

Well there is a lot that has to be done in order to make a big block work. First off you will need
-front springs
-radiator
-big block motor mounts
-Rear end (ford 9")
-New suspension
Like Antmar said that you really do not need Rear end (ford 9")New suspension right from the get go, but you will need it eventually. The 5th gen El Camino were not made for big blocks so you will need to beef it up so it can support it perfectly. _________________ El Camino Nation the second best El Camino forum on the web http://elcamino.freeforums.org/portal.php
