I have an 1984 Elky. A brand new 350 crate motor straight from gm. I have put true dual exhaust with 40 series mufflers...i have put on a competition hooker headers. I bought a remanufacture rochester quadrajet because of the electronic crap. I have eliminated the smog pump..the catalytic converter. i have the egr plugged off. and the whole smog valve thing is taken off. What i really want to know is what to do about the quadrajet now that the smog stuff is off. The car runs great early in the morning (cold) then once it warms up it starts to bog. Is that the electric choke or what. Since i have removed the smog can i replace the carb with like a holley regular 750 4 bbl..or do i have to replace the distributor too? Do carb spacers make any difference or no? Thanxs alot..i hope u guys can help me with this stuff thanx.

I put a holley 750cfm 4bbl on my 350... It had a split bore intake and I used a carb spacer/adaptor to make it fit (as opposed to trying to find a split bore carb or a straight bore intake). It had a holley 450cfm 4bbl on it. I didn't do anything but remove the 450 and bolt on the 750.

I didn't have to touch the distributor (it has electronic ignition).

I don't have any catalytic converters on my dual exhaust and I believe most of the emissions stuff has been removed. I've never seen what would be an EGR on the truck. It also doesn't have any return lines from the fuel pump.

Also, the choke on mine is always open (I'm in the caribbean - warm Smile

The truck used to bog out at higher speeds or after it was running for a while... but a new carb (the holley 750) made that problem go away.

Also, from what I gather, a holley is an easier beast to service.

I'm not sure if these comments help you any, but that's my 2 cents worth.

If you have allready got rid of that much, you might as well go to a edelbrock or holley carb. Go get a hei distribitor from a junk yard, then do away with the ecm.
